As systems move to automated workflows involving files, the need for performing automated transcoding
from one format to another becomes more and more urgent. However, the systems currently available are
labour-intensive to integrate and often provide far more functionality than is required (at a significant
cost).
Transcoder Plugs are simple to integrate (via the command-line), and you only have to buy
a Plug for the transform(s) you need.
For example, let's say you're a post-production house, and you need to produce an MPEG-2 file for uploading
to a digital distribution system such as
Adstream. Your transcoding
options start at around USD $7,000, unless you use a
Transcoder Plug:
- From your edit suite, export a TGA sequence with AIFF or WAV audio tracks
- Call the TGA Sequence to MPEG-2 PS Transcoder Plug, with the parameters required by the distirbution system
- Upload the resulting MPEG-2 file via FTP
